The Energy Cells energy storage system project has been recognised at the prestigious European and UK Energy Storage Awards held in London, winning one of the most important categories – the best European project over 100 MW. The Energy Cells project also came second in the category of best overall European energy storage project of the year.
The award is for a unique 200 MW energy storage system project that ensures the security of Lithuania’s energy system by providing an isolated working reserve service. It is currently the largest storage system in Europe and contributes to regional energy security and Lithuania’s goal of energy independence.
Rimvydas Štilinis, CEO of Energy cells: “This important award is the result of our team’s consistent work and the innovative approach of Lithuania’s energy experts. We have developed a solution that strengthens Lithuania’s and the region’s energy security, while at the same time building the region’s first and now Europe’s largest storage system. We are very pleased that our project has been ranked among the strongest projects in Europe and that Lithuania’s name has been heard at an energy event of this magnitude.”
The Energy Storage Awards is one of the most important international events in the energy storage sector, attracting more than 350 participants from the growing energy storage sector. The awards event consists of 21 categories and the best projects are selected by an international panel of judges consisting of 14 energy professionals.
In its categories, Energy Cells beat projects from global companies. In the category of the best European project over 100 MW, Energy cells beat Lion storage from the Netherlands, GIGA Green Turtle and Yuso from Belgium and Amarenco from Ireland. In total, 5 energy companies from different countries were nominated in this category.
Meanwhile, in the category of the best energy storage project of the year in Europe, Energy Cells came second among Kyoto Group from Norway, GIGA storage, Lion storage and Sunrock from the Netherlands, Yuso from Belgium, Amarenco from Ireland, Energy Dome from Italy. 8 energy companies from different countries were nominated in this last category in total.
